Netgear WNDR3700 Wireless Router

This is the first wireless router I've ever bought. The reason was that I had purchased a netbook, which of course needs Internet access. Getting through Ethernet cabling wasn't something I am good at, so I decided to go wireless. WNDR3700 was very easy to set-up. In fact, the installation CD is not needed to make router fully operational. Just input 192.168.1.1 in the browser and go straight to router's control panel. It have interface in multiple languages, and features quite handy explanations of all settings. I don't need FAQ or manual to configure it correctly. WNDR3700 connects a desktop PC (wired) and 2 wireless devices (netbook + smartphone) on 2,4 Ghz band. I know it supports 5 Ghz as well so it is pretty much future-proof in case I ever get devices capable of operating on 5 Ghz band.
I haven't experienced a single hiccup or 'out-of-service' state with this router over a year, it's that reliable. Never did a restart. It is absolutely quiet, and just slightly warm. I like how its indicators are blinking, just by looking at them I can easily tell what kind of activity is going on.
Design is cool, though I don't care - a router isn't something you will keep staring at. Set up, put it on the shelf and forget what it looks like.
The wireless coverage is OK for my apartment. I get 5* signal everywhere. Transfer speeds from a desktop to netbook is about 10 MB/s (yes, megabytes, not megabits). This is because the desktop machine has 100 Mbp/s Ethernet card Intel 82559, so it operates at 100% load. The netbook certainly can do better.
As to Internet, online TV is OK to watch on netbook. Same goes for YouTube HD videos. WNDR3700 handles streaming video just fine.
I don't use any 3d party firmwares (like DD-WRT) because stock ones do what I need. Upgrading firmware is easy, every time you log on to admin panel it checks for available upgrades. I upgraded about 3 times and currently there's 4th firmware under beta-testing.
To sum up, I'm pleased with this router. The only con is slow writing speed to NTFS formatted external hard drive connected to USB port. Netgear is well aware of this and I hope the issue will be fixed with the next firmware.
I still have no use for DLNA server, so will have to buy a flat-screen TV to check it out ;)

Got this baby two weeks ago and I'm very satisfied by now. Factory pre-installed firmware is a bit buggy and sluggish so I decided to flash DD-WRT firmware which is absolutely amazing! The router is now online nearly 2 weeks, under HEAVY load (3 PCs on LAN and 12 on WiFi + 1TB HDD attached to USB port) without single reboot or connectivity loss. Perfect. That's what I wanted.

Ohh baby! I love this router. Being a demanding user I want my IT stuff configuration to be the best in the world and NetGear WNDR3700 fits like a charm. I'm very impressed with all the features of this product. I haven't have any problems with installation, configuration and use - what soever. The price on Pixmania is nice. 10 points from me.

This router replaced the home router and the RJ45 is 10 times faster than the standard 100 Meg the WI-FI is upto 300 meg 2.4 and 5 ghz the old one was 108 meg. so great improvement in wireless speed. I found the menu system a wee bit complecated and slow to update but no doubt the next firmware update will sort out these issues. I use it for streaming video files to Netgear EVA8000 in HD and coping large files from one PC to another peice of cake!

I bought this to improve the signal of my modem/router provided by my ISP - the signal upstairs in my house kept dropping out and it didn't work very well with my iphone. I bought this off the back of online reviews and it's as expected. Surprisingly good setup software and UI. Has solved the poor signal issues (reason for purchase) so can't fault it really. I didn't notice that it doesn't have an internal modem, therefore needs connecting to a modem for internet access and that wasn't clear otherwise I would have given it a higher ranking. Yet to test the other features i.e. USB connectivity.
