Wacom Bamboo Fun Pen & Touch M Graphics Tablet

This is really a very good piece of kit. I've had a couple of tablets before, but this one is so far advanced, with the touch functions, pressure sensitivity, etc.

I was a bit concerned that all the functions would not work in one of the Apple programs that I use a lot (Aperture), but, so far, no problems.

The software works well, but it can be a bit annoying, popping up a black box on start-up, especially. I expect that this can be turned off, but I haven't found the switch yet.

I work as an animator and illustrator and have been using a graphics tablet for 9 years. I own a wacom graphire 2, but the surface has become scratched and I have had to sellotape a postcard over the top (which works very well.) I decided however to buy a new tablet and opted for the bamboo fun medium. I wanted a slightly bigger active area and I wanted one built by wacom as I knew it would be well made. Unfortunately for several reasons I returned it and chose to stick with my old tablet.
The first thing which annoyed me was the lead. The tablet is designed so that it can be flipped for either right or left handed use which means that the lead comes out the side and trails in front of you. If you work as a graphic artist professionally you will know that you constantly use your free hand to control the shortcuts on the keyboard and this cable can get in the way. You can get round this by changing the left hand/right hand setting I guess, but it is unsatisfactory.
I didn't like the pen, in my opinion it is too long and is not ergonomic. The buttons are the same level and not one slightly raised as they are on other pens. Also for some reason Photoshop didn't recognise change in pressure. It perhaps conflicted with the previous wacom software I had on my computer, but I therefore cannot comment on the sensitivity of the pen.
I also didn't like the feel of the touchpad when using the pen. It is supposed to feel like paper but I don't understand why anyone would want this. In my opinion it should be smooth - the whole idea is that you sense the results of your drawing movements through what you see on the screen, not what you feel on the tablet.
I don't see any reason to have buttons on the tablet itself but there are four which you can change the settings for.
With this tablet you can navigate through touch as well as with the pen, using various gestures for which there are clear instructions. It is a mixture between a laptop trackpad and an iphone. It's not something I would have used much but if you like that way of working I've no doubt this is extremely good for that.
