LaCie LaCinema Classic HD Media Player Hard Drive - 1TB, black

Bought this to transfer my music and video collection from pc to home entertainment system. Great on screen menu, easy to set up and link to my pc network. Picture and sound quality great.

Recommended kit at a great price - plus a huge 1tb of storage.
If you have been considering a mutimedia player to hook up to your tv then strongly recommend the Lacie.

I purchased the LaCie LaCinema Classic HD 1TB (Multimedia Hard Drive) to play my ever growing collection of digital files on my main TV. I've previously tried streaming files from my computer and then a NAS to my Sony PS3 and then tried to play the files through that on my TV, but have found it doesn't work properly and get too many errors trying to play "unsupported formats". These problems I believe are more down to issues with the DLNA standard.

So, I decided to look at a dedicated media player that could also store the files and I found the LaCinema. It's a great looking bit of kit - a small, sleek, gloss-black block that almost disappears under the TV save for the blue glowing light when it's switched on - and nice and quiet with no annoying fan noise. It really is plug and play and after quickly setting up my video and audio settings it started playing all the movie files I threw at it straight away. The one issue I have is trying to get the audio signal out of the HDMI as I'm currently having to use the digital optical cable instead which uses up one of the inputs on my AV amp that I'd rather not use.

I also plugged in an ethernet cable and connected it up to my router and it instantly configured itself to appear on my network. Once I've set this up properly so I can drag and drop files from my computer onto the LaCinema's hard drive it really will be doing what I require.

The only bad thing I can say about it is the remote is extremely flimsy and can be a little bit unresponsive. The button layout could be better too, so if you have an all-in-one remote it might be an idea to set it up to work with this.

Of my experience so far, I rate the LaCinema Classic HD very highly and I think it's great value.

From the moment you open the box you cant believe what you get for your money, all the cables you would ever need, including the hdmi cable and they are all a good length.

The images online look larger than it actually is, it is tiny and looks fantastic.

I transfered all my files from one hard drive to the next without any difficulty and its really fast compared to other drives i have used.

On plugging the device into my TV the device automatically detects that this is the first time you have used it and runs through a series of questions, and thats it ready for action!

My initial thoughts was a little dissapointing as the onscreen appaearance was terrible. After a few tweeks in `settings` and this was rectified and the appearance looks fantastic.

I now have it plugged into the TV, I can upload new files from anything connected to the network. Watch all the contents it in its full glory from anywhere in the house.

There is even software to allow you to backup and restore your computer which I have tested and it works perfectly. This in itself could potentially save you money and time.

In a nutshell if your looking for the perfect NAS drive that requires very little setting up and will operate from the moment you plug it in this is the one for you. You will not be dissapointed
