ok so i thought i had found the best compact camera ever in the canon ixus 800is after dabbling in 3 or 4 sony models over the years..........then along came this gem
starting from the top: built to last with a strong sturdy build but still fitting in your pocket.
long battery life (i prefer this method of external charging as this way you can have multiple readily charged batteries on a long trip)
lens -picture quality amazing.
yes it is a point and shoot but with many adjustable settings.
it does not get any better than this....unless you are a pro photographer you will not need any more that this to record crystal clear memories.....
the preset settings are great for changing scenarios or for spontaneous snapping (try and get a good pic of the kids is a nightmare any day any camera)
userfriendliness of the highest order
canons image software is brill..............if you have been thinking of upgrading to a gold rated compact look no further

all round good peformer

We bought this camera a few months ago and are extremely happy with it. It has a quality feel to it, it's easy to use and takes great quality pictures. It has a nice large viewing screen, great zoom features, and is small and compact yet solid. Highly recommended!!

large, sharp lcd viewfinder

Doesn't show battery life

This is an excellent camera. I bought it as a second camera to use instead of carrying my Canon 350D everywhere. It's an excellent camera and being able to adjust the ISO settings meant I got some great pictures inside in the house in poorly lit rooms over the Christmas break. I found the quality of the video very good also. Although not an HD video camera it gave me more than I expected quality wise.
Since I got the camera 3 weeks ago i haven't left the house without it in my pocket, and as a result got some great shots which I would not have gotten with my SLR simply because it was with me.
I am astonished however that Canon have not put on a battery indicator on the camera, this is a serious error, even with a second back-up battery I still found I didn't know if I had two or just one good battery going out. And you can't, as I normally would with the SLR, just turn on the camera the night before heading off somewhere and check if I need to charge the battery in the camera.

Its overall size & weight, means it easily fits in my pocket, and of course the image quailty,

No battery indicator, can't set the aperture manually.
