The Optio A40 from Pentax is one of the most compact cameras around, with a 12-megapixel sensor for exceptional shots that you can then print in up to A1 format.  Thanks to its 3200 ISO sensitivity, you get an excellent contrast rate, even in low-lighting conditions.  
The A40 also has an image stabiliser to guarantee sharp, precise shots, even when the subject is moving, because it has an ultra-fast trigger that takes photos in just 0.02 seconds.  
The "Face Priority" function comes in very useful for automatic exposure, focusing on the subject of the photo to give you the best results. Meanwhile, the AutoPicture mode automatically picks the right scene mode for each of your pictures so you don't have to!
Finally, with a video recording function with sound, the Optio A40 can record up to 50 minutes of DviX video on a 1 GB memory card.
