Being able to record footage in Full HD mode has become a increasingly sought-after feature by consumers today. Always one step ahead, Canon is at the forefront of technological development for digital SLR cameras.

The EOS 550D records videos in 1920 x 1080p Full HD resolution and allows photographers to select the fps (frames per second) rate of their choice (30, 25 or 24 fps) and allows users to record 720p video footage in 60 or 50 fps mode. The EOS 550D also features a 3.5 mm microphone jack for hooking up an external microphone during video recording sessions.

Photo enthusiasts can control manual exposure settings, estimate the depth of field and the degree of blur to give their videos a creative and artistic flair. To obtain the highest image quality, the Highlight Tone Priority (HTP) setting can be used independently for recording video footage without affecting still image settings. When subjects are far away, the EOS 550D's video cropping function comes into play, recording footage from the sensor's central zone (640x480 pixels), which magnifies images to about 7x of their original size.

Canon's revolutionary Instant AF auto focus system offers a dramatic improvement in auto focus speed and accuracy (compared to traditional auto focus systems). Instant AF significantly decreases the time it takes to find focus -- even in low light conditions -- and improves your camera's ability to maintain focus. The Instant AF feature uses an external AF sensor to measure the distance to the subject. Then, a TV AF sensor fine-tunes the focus. A change in the contrast of the subject can lead to a loss of focus, even though the subject hasn't moved. With Instant AF, the external sensor "sees" that the subject has not moved. To sum things up, focus is not lost, and your HD images remain sharp.

When shooting video footage, do you sometimes wish you could capture the moment forever by printing out an HD photo? With the "Full HD Movie Print" function, you can print out images from your recorded HD videos. What's more, photos are captured in outstanding 1920 x 1080 (1080p) resolution.
