Environmental policy

Canon’s environmental policy has been built on the fundamental principles outlined in the Group’s Environmental Charter. It reflects Canon’s activities and the impact they have on the environment.

Canon’s Kyosei philosophy
Canon carries out its activities following the Kyosei philosophy, which involves achieving corporate growth and development while contributing to the prosperity of the world and common well-being.

Canon’s Environmental Management System
In keeping with the Kyosei philosophy, Canon optimises the use of resources and contributes to creating a society that is committed to sustainable development.

The Fundamental Principles of Canon’s Environmental Management System
Canon designs ecological products that have less of an impact on the environment, and seeks to develop its activity while respecting the environment and natural resources.

These fundamental principles are supported by the following rules:

1. Establish and operate an Environmental Management System designed to continuously improve and develop our activity while contributing to the preservation of natural resources and common well-being.
2. Increase the environmental awareness of employees and encourage environmental protection intiatives on an individual and company level.
3. When purchasing resources, give priority to materials, parts and products with less environmental impact.
4. Conform to the environmental laws in in place and uphold Canon’s Environmental Management System.
5. Actively take part in activities related to the prevention of pollution, the elimination of hazardous substances and the conservation of energy and resources.
6. Encourage collection and recycling of products at the end of their life span.
7. Optimise the disposal of product maintenance waste.
8. Maintain close relationships with governmental authorities, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and other concerned parties. Actively disclose information regarding the ecological performance of products and the environmental programme.
